Mickey Kelley, one of the first American black belts in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, gets pulled away from everything he loves and into an unsanctioned MMA tournament.
I liked this mostly because you could tell it was a passion project for Sean Patrick Flannery and he is quite good in the lead role, but as a sports drama I just didn't find it all that effective even though the Mickey Kelley character is pretty sympathetic and likable for the most part. Granted there were a few twists and turns that I didn't see coming, but this is yet another boxing/mma film that goes through all the tropes and emotions that you've seen before and honestly done alot better IMO.

Re: Born a Champion
Its a well made movie but it works well as a drama and while the fights are choreographed very well they are very generic and emotionally manipulative which brings this down. Sean Patrick Flannery is decent but he needed a much more tense script/screenplay for this to work. Katrina Bowden is good but her character has nothing to do here other than look pretty and be the emotional arc to be used in the end.
