Re: Outside the Wire
I can kind of see why the reactions/reviews to this are so mixed, but I honestly enjoyed it for the most part. It moved at a good enough pace considering the almost 2 hour running time and the action sequences are really well done, especially all the badass hand to hand stuff with Anthony Mackie's character who is suprisingly a perfect fit for the role. Damson Idris is pretty solid in this too, but the action sequences are the main standouts here.

Re: Outside the Wire
The movie has great action sequences but as a sci-fi or political drama it fails badly. Mackie is his usual self but his action scenes are done nicely. Damson Idris does not bring anything fresh to his character. Direction is decent if wobbly but the script is poor and that middle half twist lands with a thud. I liked the flow of the movie because it never stops or takes itself too seriously but other than the fights and action scenes nothing is really good here even the visuals are shaky at best specially those bomb drops and drone scenes were poorly handled.

Re: Outside the Wire
Meh. The first half is pretty good, second becomes more of a Michael Bay movie without his signature touch for epic action scenes. I was hoping there'd be another layer to the story, but no, the US military saved the day, making up for any minor critiques they might have received earlier in the movie. Mackie's character didn't even seem to understand his plan, he just combined a bunch of movies he had recently seen like Sicario and Training Day with Terminator.
