Boss Level is an upcoming science fiction action film directed by Joe Carnahan and written by Carnahan, Chris and Eddie Borey. It stars Frank Grillo as a retired special forces soldier who tries to escape a never-ending time loop that results in his death. Mel Gibson, Naomi Watts and Michelle Yeoh co-star.

Boss Level was announced in November 2017, and was produced by Carnahan, Grillo, Randall Emmett and George Furla. Filming took place in Georgia from March to May 2018. The film was originally scheduled to be released by Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures on August 16, 2019, but was delayed. It was subsequently bought by Hulu, which will release it in 2021.

A fun movie that lacked depth on top of that it tries too hard to be so many things it ends up being a hot mess. Frank Grillo is great in this where as Gibson and Watts in their small roles do good enough but still not sure what they are doing in here. The movie is fun and never takes itself seriously which helps to digest the incoming load of non-sensical death after death without any substance to latch on. The finale is good but again there is no chemistry between Grillo and Watts (nor is given even a single scene to develop, there were a lot of flashbacks but why waste time on central love story right?). The end-of-world were the most cringe worthy and dullest scenes ever and never manage to increase the stakes. The action and choreography are good and it gives you a vibe of a video-game (which it is not in the end) from the start. If you go for brainless action movie than it is fun and I can see it become a cult favorite but those elements get tiring after first few deaths.

The cliff hanger ending was probably my least favorite thing about this movie, but now that you mention it I also didn't feel much chemistry between Naomi Watts and Frank Grillo either. I liked his scenes with the kid though and he does carry the movie pretty well overall, but there just isn't a whole lot of development for his character.

The action scenes were fun too and well done on a practical level, but if your going into this as a mindless action movie than you will probably get more out of it honestly. I also enjoyed Mel Gibson and Will Sasso in this as the villains, but they could have been given more to do and Michelle Yeoh was such a random, wasted addition to this with her role.
I am completely in love with Selina Lo too. :wub2:

I agree Michelle Yeoh as the equivalent of Morpheus in a single Matrix wanna be scene was a pretty random addition to this though maybe they planned to use her in a sequel that will never happen.

Nice treat, even great actually. Very good cast, Gibson is unfortunately underutilized, but everyone else works and it's one of Grillo's best roles. It's a fast paced actioner, not too original with the re-living a day over concept, but it nicely applies the video game element and I like the execution. It reminded me of what I'm expecting Free Guy to be and that has a high bar to meet now. One point of critique is that it's bit too obviously CGI'd at parts, though it actually plays in alright with the video game vibe. It's got some nice action and humor that makes this a winner for me.

Right on, her fatality move is hot.
