Quote:
Speed is a 1994 American action-thriller film directed by Jan de Bont, and set in Los Angeles. LAPD officer Jack Traven becomes the focus of a bomber and extortionist, retired Atlanta bomb squad sergeant, Howard Payne. After Payne escapes his first entanglement with Traven, he sets up a bomb on a city bus that Traven boards and must keep moving above 50 miles per hour or the bomb will explode. The film stars Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper, Sandra Bullock and Jeff Daniels. It won two Academy Awards for Best Sound and Best Sound Effects at the 67th Academy Awards in 1995.

This is my second favorite action movie ever, right behind Face/Off. It's the beginning of Keanu Reeves' action career, in my opinion. He did a great job. This movie has an excellent story, backed up by some amazing action scenes. The ultimate action movie that keeps you at the edge of your seat from the first minute to the last. Sandra Bullock also did good, too. It's one of my favorites of all time.

A+

Definitely on of the five best action movies ever made. By far the "fastest" action movie I have ever seen (as suggested by the title, hehe). The acting is decent, Dennis Hopper is a good villain. Unfortunately all the characters are way underdeveloped. However, the tremendous action makes up for that.

One of the last of its dying breed action movies. If only today's pure action movie was as exciting as this, maybe Con Air. The oother similiar movie Blown Away was just as good

I love, love, love Speed. This and Die Hard are probably my favorite action movies ever.

This is essentially the definition of a "rollercoaster ride."

Fantastic action flick. As good as Die Hard. Reeves actually is decent as an action hero, and the scenes are nothing short of exciting.

Seriously, this film is excellent. Not a single dull moment. Haven't seen great actioners like this and The Rock and Die Hard in many years...

i have no idea. perhaps because its premise is gimmicky and dull, and there is not one interesting character?

You expect a François Truffaut action movie?

awesome fun, I love watching this film.

"Pop quiz hotshot, theres a bomb on the bus what do you do, What do you do?"

"Do not attempt to grow a brain"

awesome one liners, totally awesome.

Post Re: Speed
Saw it about 2 months ago, after not seeing it for at least 10 years. I can't think of any race against the clock movie ever better than this one. There's suspense from the get-go, and it doesn't let go. Hopper, Reeves and Bullock are greatly cast in this. It's become an iconic movies of the 90's, that can still totally be enjoyed 20 years later. I felt the bus jump scene really was a bit ludicrous, but for the rest the bus racing part included a lot of moments of intensity like the pram hit, and the rescue scene most notably. Jan de Bont did great with this film, and I still feel it's a bit weird how one goes from becoming very respected after a good film run, and then so easily dismissed again after a poor one in Hollywood. Twister was obviously great as well, and I thought the Haunting and Tomb Raider have been critiqued too much. Speed 2 was a big mistake though.

Anyway, Speed is a movie for the ages.

Whoa, Dennis Hopper died. I didn't realise that.

But yeah, Speed is a great on-the-edge-of-your-seat action movie, and Keanu Reeves' best role.

This is the definition of edge-of-your-seat thriller and a throwback to earlier action movies. Sandra Bullock, Jeff Daniels and Dennis Hopper are great in this but this is Keanu Reeves' show and he drives home with it ;) It also has great one-liners while never letting go of the tension.
