A second viewing didn't do it any favors. I wanted to shut it off after Joaquin's 27th hysterical laughter scene during the first 30 minutes.

I watched this again (has been on my re-watch list for a long time) and my opinion does not get better. When the focus is on Phoenix it works specially because its not a "Batman Universe" movie. When the world expands it loses focus. There are some brilliant scenes in the movie and I felt the emotional turmoil of the character throughout this time but that did not make some of the scenes justified. The riot and the alley end is still shoe-horned here, the hospital ending works better.

Original concept and interesting ideas but too convenient and certain parts too underdeveloped to feel plausible.
