Quote:
Godzilla is a 2014 American science fiction monster film featuring the Japanese film monster of the same name in a reboot of the Godzilla film franchise. The film retells the origins of Godzilla in contemporary times as a "terrifying force of nature", depicted in a style faithful to the Toho series of Godzilla films. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards, written by Max Borenstein and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, David Strathairn, and Bryan Cranston.

The film is a co-production between Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, with participation by Toho. Warner Bros. will also distribute the film worldwide, except in Japan where it will be distributed by Toho. It is the second Godzilla film to be fully filmed by an American studio, the first having been the 1998 Godzilla. This film is scheduled for wide release world-wide on May 15, 2014, in North America on May 16, 2014, China on June 13 and Japan on July 25, 2014 in 2D and 3D.

I have not realized until today that Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen star in both Godzilla and Avengers Age of Ultron  smart move from both directors

A

Early on in the film I thought we would get a Batman Begins esque genre defining origin story. While this turns out to be a shorter and becomes more IRON MAN than BB, it's equally as impressive.

The entire film feels like build up to the fights but it works very well because it's still exciting and there sa lot of tension - it is extremely atmospheric. It is a classic monster movie/creature feature in that sense. There is plenty of eye candy even though Godzilla is just being teased. ATJ is really bland sadly but everybody is good and most importantly it doesn't really matter.

Regardless, I loved this movie. In a lot of ways it is what KING KONG 2005 should have been. There is just the right amount of back story and explaining to make us stop questioning without over thinking it. The feel is extremely "JURASSIC PARK once they get to the island"...there is no funny Newman character or even a Jeff Goldblum, but the film is thrilling you really dont notice.

Spoiler: show
The male muto kind of goes out like abitch but the way zilla pwns the female is awesome

Godzilla 2 is going to gross over 1 billion dollars.

MONSTER PORN. But this needs more Bryan Cranston.

Spoiler: show
I could not vare less about any human after Bryan Cranston dies

Godzilla vs other monsters was epic. But human stories were such waste after the Japan stuff.

God's honest truth...

Godzilla is bad.

Colossally bad.

Dull, dull, dull, scattered-brained soap opera with bad acting throughout... including Godzilla himself - - even Fred Flinstone played it better in The Monster From The Tar Pits...

1 out of 5.

If only!

This is more like the opposite - - a weepy romance with just a little bit of rather chaste physical contact.

Monster porn wouldn't bother with an hour and a half of set-up - - they'd be rolling around in the first five minutes.

Seriously, Bryan Cranston chews more scenery than Godzilla himself.

I wonder if people will complain about Godzilla destroying skyscrapers and not rescuing people.

This was pretty damn good. Not amazing. Could have used more action/humor/Cranston. The sustained tense atmosphere is what makes it work though. And some of the money shots are incredible, I'm amazed the marketing department was able to show so much restraint. The shot where we're in the reflection of a building, watching explosions chain into more explosions until a giant foot blocks the action. A pan up to see Godzilla in his full glory ends the sequence and made me mark out. I wish we got more moments like this, but we got enough to make this a satisfying experience.

Post Re: Godzilla (2014)
I'd probably rate it a B+. My crowd (about 100 people, pretty good for a non midnight show) was great for the money shots. They marked out every time, so fun! There were definitely some people annoyed with the early exit of Bryan Cranston. A few of the plot holes annoyed me. Normally, in a movie like this I would let them go, but they tried to explain where the monsters came from in a serious manner, and so the plot holes annoyed me. Still, the continuous tension really added to the movie, and the effects and sound are Oscar worthy. The movie sorely needed some humor during the human parts of the movie though. Not so much to make it cheesy such as Independence Day or Pacific Rim, but a bit to help with the overall entertainment. This movie is REALLY dry in that department.

I'm satisfied, but it didn't WOW me. And I think that's going to hurt it's legs because I think a lot of people are going to think that way.

FYI, as excited as the crowd was for the money shots, they were surprisingly dead during the trailers. Only one got any reaction (a good one). Try to guess which movie...

I domt think they can enjoy the film... There is ZERO comedy. And there's no one to root for after The Japan setting.

There's plenty of destruction. The winged dude is destroying things for the entire movie. We don't get to see them fight until the end though.

Well, of course!, the final battle was seriously awesome . But i dont think kids would like rooting for the big, fat dinosaur. Plus I don't think they would like all the cockteasing fights.

Also the makeup they used to age Cranston 15 years was incredible. This film was not really good at all outside of 3 great shots. A lot of non-intentional humor as well. Also I feel like they showed the monster in Cloverfield more than Godzilla, kind of a jip. The big scene with Godzilla really is probably less than 3 minutes in length. And it's really the only time you see him fully. And yes the acting is bad across the board. The film should have been called The Boring Johnson Family Meets Godzilla

I'd give it a C to C+ right now.
