 The Whole Nine Yards The Whole Nine Yards Quote: The Whole Nine Yards is a 2000 American Mafia comedy directed by Jonathan Lynn, starring Bruce Willis, Matthew Perry, Amanda Peet, Michael Clarke Duncan and Natasha Henstridge. The title derives from a popular expression possibly dating from World War II naval aviation which means "completely, the whole, everything". The Whole Nine Yards was followed by the 2004 film The Whole Ten Yards.

Re: The Whole Nine Yards It's an enjoyable, fluffy, light comedy, and I always enjoy watching it. It's nothing extraordinary or ground-breaking but it gets the job done. Lots of enjoyable slapstick and some great interplay between the characters.

It's a fun flick. Matthew Perry doesn't do much to me, but Willis is in great shape here and I liked most of its dark humor. Nothing outstanding, but a fun watch in spare time.
I still haven't seen the sequel, though.

Re: The Whole Nine Yards From watching the start, I had a feeling I'd seen this before. But it must've been flashbacks from The Whole Ten Yards or the trailer for this one that I was remembering. Or maybe once upon a time I watched the beginning. But I don't think so. Anyway, it's a good, clever little contract killer black comedy. They were right to make a sequel (of which I also enjoyed). Matthew Perry essentially plays Chandler Bing if Chandler Bing was a dentist that is married to a Canadian woman that wanted him dead and who lived next door to an assassin. But he is so likable and watchable in the role that it was probably written for that character anyway. The film is at its best when Willis is on screen.
I'm not sure that the ending makes total sense. How can they get married when Oz is still married to Sophie?

Re: The Whole Nine Yards I remember this as a fun comedy too. The sequel is not bad either, but a bit less enjoyable because it just felt more of the same, at least that's how I remember it as it's so long since I've seen these films more than a decade ago. Should be nice to revisit them some day.
