 Mindhorn
Quote: Mindhorn is a British 2016 independent comedy film directed by Sean Foley,[2] written by Julian Barratt and Simon Farnaby, and produced by Steve Coogan and Ridley Scott. It stars Barratt, Farnaby, Essie Davis, Russell Tovey and Andrea Riseborough, with cameo appearances by Kenneth Branagh and Simon Callow as themselves.[3] Barratt plays Richard Thorncroft, a faded television actor drawn into negotiations with a criminal who believes his character Detective Mindhorn is real.

 Re: Mindhorn
Rather average, it's got a few laughs and for the first half it's also quite alright, but it becomes dull as it carries on. It doesn't break any new grounds nor is it that funny. Jokes like, "it's not a real gun", gun goes off, everyone "ohhh", grow tiresome. It does have a nice timidness to it and the actors do their part, but it never becomes anything more and just gets by as passable.

Mindhorn
Evoking television cop heroes of yesteryear such as Baretta, Bergerac, and Starsky & Hutch, British comedy Mindhorn is clever and funny in its bizarre telling of has-been actor-turned-celebrity-policeman, Richard Thorncroft. The film's co-creator, Simon Farnaby, is hilarious in his banter and longstanding vendetta with "Mindhorn", spinning some of the film's best humour.

 Re: Mindhorn
Glad you watch it and more so that you enjoyed it, surprised too, but seems it just not my kind of humor then. Not sure if that has anything to do with me never having watched "Baretta, Bergerac, and Starsky & Hutch".

 Re: Mindhorn
I'd watched Baretta, but never the other two, however I am obviously aware of them and know what types of show they are, and Mindhorn doesn't just hark back to those, but that whole 70s/80s television genre influenced mainly by US cop shows. I don't believe you need to have watched specific shows to get the humour. I would just say that the humour wasn't for you.
