Wakefield

I believe this is a special film. A sudden, conscious detachment from one's life, a relationship study between well-off suburbanites, an exploration of the bond, conception, and ownership of a partner, the voyeurism between husband and wife, and so on and so forth. It covers a lot, if you allow it. Cranston's soft and assured yet aged voice connects so beautifully with the wisdom-filled dialogue and delightfully low-key score creating an insatiable sense of melancholia.

Post Re: Wakefield
Wakefield is all Cranston and he's brilliant in this great portrait of a man feeling disillusioned with his life. Cranston fascinates in the role and keeps his character interesting by considering his past, present and future. The films compels by both the situation Wakefield chooses to live in and what it's all leading to. Unfortunately it's the ending which I found a bit deflating, taking a chunk of purpose out of the story. He seems to may have found himself finally, but I missed a grander meaning to it. Nonetheless, the film took me on a quite beautiful journey.
