 Cube
Cube Quote: Cube is a 1997 Canadian psychological thriller/horror film directed by Vincenzo Natali. The film was a successful product of the Canadian Film Centre's First Feature Project.
Much of the film's appeal lies in its surreal, Kafkaesque settings; no extensive attempt is made to explain what the cube in which the characters are confined is, why it is created, or how the people were selected to be put inside the cube. Although the world "outside" is referred to, it is presented in an extremely abstract fashion, either a dark void or a bright white light.

i finally got to see the Cube like 6 months ago and i was so-so about it
very unique and intelligent but slow and boring movie...the acting was painful to watch. It has an amazing concept but the result wasnt very good
and also i would of like to know whats up with that cube, where did it come from, why was the reason it existed or something

I mostly agree with matatonio on this one. The concept is original and very interesting. The traps are quite innovative and being the horror fan that I am, I enjoyed the nice amounts of blood and gore in the movie. But ultimately, the movie failed to explore its potential, left too many questions unanswered and the ending is a sheer disappointment.

I loved the hell out of it.

(and for the record, I'd give Cube 2: Hypercube a C+ and Cube Zero a B)

Very interesting film, if not for the actual visual aspect. While its concept was quite original, it was the underlying psychology of the characters that was the highlight of the film. The writers did an excellent job of showing how each character unraveled slowly over time, in such a confined space and under such exhorbitant stress. That being said, the acting was mediocre at best, which given the material was dissapointing. The visual aspects were fairly good, and some of the death scenes were quite original.
Overall, I'd give it a B, with better actors and more defined pacing this could have been a great film, as it stands, its good, but lacking.

Interesting, suspenseful flick, with some great direction, hampered by terrible acting and atrocious dialogue. The overall concept is an intriguing one, and could have made for a better film in the hands of a competent writer, but instead the screenplay is filled with idiotic characters and ludicrous dialogue. Combined with some terrible overacting by most of the cast, and the dialogue-heavy scenes become painful to watch. Fortunately, the 'action' sequences redeem the film, as they are shot well and become incredibly suspenseful - especially the scene with the quiet room. Some great gore effects and a fitting ambiguous ending make it a worthwhile viewing.

Cube
Watched half of Cube a few years ago with stuffp and Felipe, but never got around to finishing it. Started from the beginning tonight and it's a really awesome film. It's really low budget, and for 1997 the effects are both fantastic and shoddy, but nonetheless charming and frugal. It's great how each character is different, and how each unfolds and reveals pieces about themselves as they move through the maze, but Quentin is one annoying son-of-a-bitch - I guess there's always one like that! The ending is a letdown how Quentin just pops up from nowhere and ruins the remaining three's passage to the outside, but the film generated too much goodwill up until that point for me to abandon it now. Cube is a clever and suspenseful idea, not fully explored but enough to make an enjoyable film out of. Though I hope Cube 2: Hypercube is even better.
B+

 Re: Cube
I don't think the ending disparages the rest of the film. I only saw it a few years ago, but this is a solid B+. Btw. Balazs liked this one too. Algren wrote: I hope Cube 2: Hypercube is even better.

 Re: Cube
Right, I guess we could call it a creative mishap, but not to the extent of someone waking up and just finding out it was all a dream or something. It was unneeded to have it end like that, but truthfully I didn't even really remember that about the film at all.

 Re: Cube
Actually, I did think that it being all a dream was going to happen, but it didn't. I might have liked that actually.
