I liked the acting and overall message the movie gives as the same can be applied to any type not just black or gay which is what got me into the movie but its terribly slow and the camera work isn't very pleasing to the eyes. Its good but definitely not the best movie material there have been better gay/black movies I believe but its definitely one of the best movies out of that category.

Agreed. I just don't see how any other year without the controversy he would get the awards. Also he is good but the character is just the usual supporting actor nothing riveting about it either.

The first two thirds were good. The last third drug on and on. But I liked it. Naomie Harris and Janelle Monae are great.

I still cannot believe Ali won Oscar for this. Its a decent performance but nothing that screams an Oscar winning performance.

Moonlight is such an art-house flick, it didn't get to me in anyway, I found the characters very wooden, and I'm wildly surprised this was in contention for, even won, Oscars. It much feels like a stage play, where scenes finish abruptly, there's no flow to it. I don't think anyone or anything stands out, undeserving of any merits. Then again, it's not a trashy film, it's just a middling independent art project of which I feel there's dozens made of each year. I found LaLa Land overrated, but compared to Moonlight, it's a masterpiece that got robbed. Moonlight was a drag to watch.

And this is just nothing like Boyhood, one it's nowhere close as good, two it's a completely different style of film. I'm not sure where the parallel goes beyond the lead being male.

Well, they made it into this trick that, it's a boy/ man of few words, but he's just staring, I find no emotion or skill in that.

Also want to clarify that acting can be without speech (of course), but the characters in this film just don't convince me with it.

Who is the titular character? I didn't realise there was a character called Moonlight in the film.
