Yeah I found this pretty boring aswell. The best thing about it is easily Sam Jackson and that's mostly because he's the only one that's actually trying to inject some much needed personality into what's an otherwise dull film. Skarsgård is a bland Tarzan, Christoph Waltz is Christoph Waltz and Margot Robbie just didn't have enough to do as Jane except being the damsel in distress for most of the movie. The flashback stuff was a bit more interesting, however the CGI animals never did it for me and the green screen work is terrible, especially the swinging. Also, the use of Djimon Hounsou was laughable and his subplot was stupid.

I was looking forward to this, and finally the best way to sum it up is probably disappointing. It actually starts off well, I like how they set up the story. Sam Jackson as mentioned is good, but Skarsgard works for me as Tarzan as well. It's most of the other roles that fail badly, Robbie's been great in recent films, but here she just feels like an empty shell. Maybe it's the material, the scenes she shares with Waltz are pretty bad, and so is Waltz himself. Just going through the motions here, and everything with Hounsou was so unnecessary too. On the one hand the film has some good cinematography at times, on the other hand however it was some awful directing and editing issues. There's often use of slow-motion moments that don't do anything positive. And then the dialogue in the film is so silly. I like the setting of the story, with Congo's situation at the time at the center of it. The story telling itself couldn't be much more off unfortunately. Finally it all comes down quite averagely.

This film has arguably the best visual effects and action sequences of the year. Really exciting, edge of your seat stuff. The story is decent, and the actors are fine. But the issue is the characters are written so dull, you really cannot get invested in it. A fun one time watch, but nothing special.
