Sleepy Hollow
Sleepy HollowQuote: Sleepy Hollow is a 1999 American period horror film directed by Tim Burton. It is a film adaptation loosely inspired by the 1820 short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving and stars Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Miranda Richardson, Marc Pickering, Michael Gambon, Jeffrey Jones, Casper Van Dien, Ian McDiarmid, Michael Gough, and Christopher Walken. The plot follows police constable Ichabod Crane (Depp) sent from New York City to investigate a series of murders in the village Sleepy Hollow by a mysterious Headless Horseman.
Development for Sleepy Hollow began in 1993 at Paramount Pictures with Kevin Yagher originally set to direct Andrew Kevin Walker's script as a low-budget slasher film. Disagreements with Paramount resulted in Yagher being demoted to prosthetic makeup designer, and Burton was hired to direct in June 1998. Filming took place from November 1998 to May 1999, and Sleepy Hollow was released to generally favorable reviews from critics, and grossed approximately $207 million worldwide. Production designer Rick Heinrichs and set decorator Peter Young won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction. Tim Burton's best work. A

I don't think so. It's a solid effort, but definitely not Burton's best work.

Not Burton's best, but a great ride. The macabre humor is evident here more then in many of his other films. From a great beginning to a solid ending the film is easily one of the better films of the 1990's. Depp's performance was excellent, as can usually be expected. Casper Van Dien, Miranda Richardson and Christinna Ricci all deliver solid performances, though none truly stand out as spectacular.
Overall, another masterpiece for Burton, what more can be said?

I haven't seen this in years... I'll probaly Netflix it, I've been wanting to see most of Burton's work. I'd say my favorites are Ed Wood and Big Fish.

Big Fish is a far cry from his other works. It is much more of a drama and a character piece. Highly recommended though.

Amazing film. Not Burton's best by any means, but one of the best films of 1999 which is saying a lot since that was the last great year for film (Fight Club, Being John Malkovich, American Beauty, Three Kings, Magnolia, The Matrix, The Sixth Sense, Go, South Park...what an amazing year). Burton's lone true horror film.
Burton's Best:
1. Edward Scissorhands
2. Ed Wood
3. Beetlejuice

I agree with Zing. This movie is Tim Burton's finest work (even though the original Batman comes close). Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci are great and this movie's visual style and art direction are among the best I have ever seen. This movie is simply a pure fun ride from the start to the very finish. Also, great casting of Christopher Walken! Amazing fun with great special effects and a good cast.

What a great movie. I loved it. Johnny Depp is such a great actor, and played this part perfect. I was intrigued the whole movie and wanted it to keep going. A-

Easily Burtons most overrated work. This is when he started to become a shaky director. Though its still one of his better of his later years.
Mars Attacks- B+
Sleepy hollow- B+
Planet of the Apes- B-
Big Fish- A
Charlie and The Chocolate Factory- C+
The Corpse Bride- B+
I remain his best work is Batman Returns, followed by Beetlejeuce, Ed Wood, and Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
Him and Michael Keaton need to get back together.

More than any other, I think this is Burton being Burton, possibly his best direction and style job ever. Otherwise though, the movie was good, nothing more.

Definitely not Burton's best (Ed Wood and Edward Scissorhands are masterpieces), but probably his most entertaining. Great score, great designs, great cinematography (I love you, Lubeszki), and another fun performance from Depp.

I enjoyed this a bunch way back when, but I watched it again just recently. It does not hold up. At all. I was bitterly disappointed.
