A compelling narrative made even more fascinating by the many formal tricks on display, ranging from the comedic use of archival footage to the livened-up talking head interview with the con man himself. But the real star is the true-life story itself, which grows darker and wilder as the film progresses. It's a lot like Dear Zachary in its shocking reveals and perverse reality, albeit not nearly as schizophrenic in its editing nor manipulative in its presentation.

It's not as much fun or as complete as Man on Wire, but it might be even more interesting.

It's a remarkable story in every way, but what makes this film stands out, is the way the story is told. Mixing up real footage, with acted passages, and narration by the imposter himself. I didn't see the twist coming, and in the end it just leaves you thinking with a big WTF. From every unveil to the next, the film reels you in closer, and without a doubt it's one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. Engaging, entertaining, and fascinating to watch, but above all just really well made.
