Beyond the Reach
I'm really enjoying these action thrillers with 80s and 90s icons in their more senior years. It follows other exciting films of the last few years such as Killing Season, Sabotage, and even The Equalizer. It's not a superb film by any means, but Michael Douglas is very watchable as the big shot Californian business tycoon, Madec, on a hunting trip in the Mojave, and speaking of that desert; some of the shots are very nice and cinematic.
However, the dialogue has issues (even to the extent where it explains things that don't need an explanation), and Jeremy Irvine (Ben) should have been replaced by someone more capable. Ben's will to survive is driven by his love for his girlfriend, which just isn't a convincing enough aspect of the plot as when together they are so miserable. And I'm not sure what to make of Ben turning into a desert Bart Simpson to subdue his attacker. But on the whole it is an entertaining 90 minutes.
