Outland
OutlandQuote: Outland is a 1981 British science fiction thriller film written and directed by Peter Hyams. The film stars Sean Connery, Peter Boyle, and Frances Sternhagen.
Set on Jupiter's moon Io, it has been described as a space Western, and bears thematic resemblances to the 1952 film High Noon.

Outland
Not terrible, but very slow and very old fashioned in terms of tech and pacing. It is difficult to watch science-fiction films from the 70s and 80s. Sean Connery has a somewhat commanding presence as usual, but the film needed more oomph. The dialogue is kept to a minimum and the film almost has no score. When I think about it, it just seems like a very quiet film, which translates into boredom. The film also isn't engaging enough to stand the test of time.
I'd guess that it wanted to jump on the Alien bandwagon of making film set in space. So it equipped itself with a narcotics-based plot, added in some western elements and it was a go. It's just a miss. If you want to make a western, make a western. If you want to make a science-fiction thriller, make one. Don't mix them.
