Moulin Rouge!
Moulin Rouge!Quote: Moulin Rouge! (English pronunciation: /muːˈlɑːn ˈruːʒ/, from French: [mulɛ̃ ʁuʒ]) is a 2001 romantic jukebox musical film directed, produced, and co-written by Baz Luhrmann. Following the Red Curtain Cinema principles, the film is based on the Orphean myth, La Traviata, and La Bohème. It tells the story of a young, English poet/writer, Christian, who falls in love with the terminally-ill star of the Moulin Rouge, cabaret actress and courtesan Satine. It uses the musical setting of the Montmartre Quarter of Paris, France. The film was nominated for eight Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Nicole Kidman, and won two: for art direction and costume design. It was the first musical nominated for best picture in 22 years. It was filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia.

Moulin Rouge! is really the movie that matured my film taste, and that is one of the many reason it is my favorite movie. Ever. Before this film, it was all about action films, I didn't care about the story, just wanted an action sequence or fight sequence.
Musicals really turn me off, so I really had no intention to watch it. But, it was on TV, and I was bored, why not? The first half hour of the film was just, so bizarre. I really enjoyed it though. Once you get to when Kidman first appears on the screen, then you know whether you'll like it or not.
The film just had me in an awe. The musical #'s, the beautiful love story, everything was just so wonderful. Baz Lurhman took a chance to bring back the musical genre, and I applaude him for that. It is a bit odd just going into song randomly, but it actually works in this film. Kidman and McGregor both have impressive musical skills, as is their acting.
While I do get made fun of saying this is my favorite film, I am very proud of it. If it wasn't for this film, I would have never given dramas or indies a chance, and they have become 2 of my favorite genres. While you may not like Moulin Rouge, you have to admit it was a pretty damn well made movie.

I didn't like it at all. Well some of the music was okay, but I just found it so overrated, and melodramatic. It was so corny when it constantly was going in slow motion. I just didn't like it. I prefer Chicago.

Two words come to mind: odd and aweinspiring. The first portions of the film are psychotic, but the film falls into a delightful melodramatic pace toward the latter half. Excellent performances by both Kidman and McGregor. One of the best musicals, and a great film overall. 9.0/10 (A)

Hey, could you please try to add some thoughts to your reviews, if you could? It's not always necessary, but some people have mentioned that they sort of feel like you're spamming a little.
Thanks.

Sure, sorry
MOULIN ROUGE is one of my all-time favorite films. The music is pitch perfect, the acting is wonderful and the story is beautifully told. Not to mention it's gorgeous to look at. Highly recommended to any true film fan.

Terrific story, with a dash of spazazz and BAZZ! The music is right on, with Come what May and that Elephant Rhapsody or something being my favorite love song. Also..Your Song is terrificaly recreated. Nicole Kidman's performance is amazing, and I'm shocked that McGregor didn't even get an Oscar NOd.

I remember when I was younger how much I wanted to see this and I did and I hated it! I just couldn't stand it. Then one night this year it was on tv. I decided to watch it and I'm glad I did. It's an amazing musical. I think THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is better but I still love MOULIN ROUGE!
9/10 (A-)

Amazing. The dynamic, zany visual style of this film actually gave me a headache, but I couldn't have been more thrilled when it was over. I suppose headaches don't usually translate into a favorable reaction, but it sure did this particular time. A

I'm betting I'll like it since you liked it so much. I guess I'll understand what you mean by zany visual style when I see it.

Yep, you will.
The cuts are extremely rapid, for instance. The camera never lingers on one shot for more than 5 or 6 seconds.

I just love this movie. The songs were well-put and well-choreographed. Jim Broadbent singing Like A Virgin, the whole Roxanne dance sequence, the beginning Can Can, Spectacular, Spectacular, Come What May... very idealistic, very romantic, very kinetic. I watch this over and over on DVD.
A+
(Definitely deserved the Producer's Guild and should've won Best Picture Oscar)

Awesome. Unbelievable. It's one of the few movies I literally was blown away by while watching. Though it is NOT the best musical of all time (that place still belongs to Singin' in the Rain) it is a close second. A+

Everyone who liked this movie should check out Baz's real magnum opus, Strictly Ballroom. I love that movie, I think I know it word for word.
As to Rouge, I thought it was decent. I actually didn't like alot of the camera work as much, because I could tell it was trying to overcompenstae for the fact that no one in the movie actually danced. It had that digital repeat zoom-in of the can-can that didn't work well. Except for those scenes, I had fun with it, and the story was good. Thought the resort to already known songs was a bit much, but all is redeemed by Kidman getting TB (yeah, I'm obsessed with that. Its even in my own future creative writing bit).
