Re: Dear White People
This is one strange movie, but it's also hilarious, disturbing and thought provoking. I particularly found the final act, mostly centered around a college party with a racially charged theme, the point at which the film was at its most powerful. This sequence was easily the most uncomfortable I've been in a theater in quite some time, and that's clearly the point the director is trying to make - it's all the more disturbing because it is based on real events. The way that the scene is shot is almost chilling and I actually feared for the safety of many of the main characters. All of the actors are fantastic and the dialogue is fresh and funny, and the movie is consistently engaging. It's definitely a must-see. A-
