Post Re: The Congress (2013)
I loved Waltz With Bashir, but Ari Folman's followup movie is such a gigantic turd. I can't remember the last time I saw such an incoherent mess. There's way too much ideas in this one and the first live-action half basically makes no connection or sense with the second animated one. Mashing the dissection of cinema of today and the future of it with Stanislaw Lem's The Futurological Congress proved to be a total miss.

3/10 -> D-

I liked it, but..... felt it to be lacking. What's here has merit, some great ideas and visuals and an attempt at social commentary. Robin Wright is excellent, a somewhat passive heroine to root for. But the film's heart is lost in a muddle of attempted philosophies that don't quite congeal. Still, worth a viewing.

Some stand out moments include the scanning scene (quite beautiful but also creepy) and the contrast between the hallucinated/animated world and the shabby, shuffling truth. Just wish it had been better as a whole.
