One of the least memorable Pixar movies.

Monsters Inc. is a good Pixar movie. Nice balance of humor and emotion (are they separate entities?), along with spectacular cgi animation.

4 out of 5.

Hmm...

I was going to say this was my favorite

Then, I realized I love Ratatouille...

...and The Incredibles
...and the Toy Story trilogy (duh)

So I can't quite call it my favorite. I will say that I've watched this one more times than any other Pixar film -- and that in theatres, it seemed to come out of nowhere (if you recall, it was released right before the first HP movie)

Same here. I'd rank it 4th behind Rat, TS3 and Incredibles.

IIRC, It was expected to open around 40-45m but exploded over 60m and then had a mega 2nd weekend hold. It scene the scene for an incredible end of year at the BO with Potter, FOTR, Oceans 11 and A Beautiful Mind.

Boo, while extremely cute, looks similar to the girl in Wreck-It Ralph.

What's your point? Stating the obvious.

They can still look similar, can't they?

I'm not taking anything away from Boo. I'm simply saying that there is another character that looks pretty much identical. In fact, it's more of a slight on Wreck-It Ralph for creating a carbon copy of Boo.

Wreck it Ralph came 11 years after this so....yeah.

Yeah the whole Ralph-Venelope relationship reminded me of the Sully-Boo relationship, not in terms of their themes, but they had similar hearts and the makers of Wreck-it-Ralph were clearly influenced by Monsters, Inc.

Apparently, by many people who saw the prequel in pre screenings, MU is superior or at least on par with MI and it does not disappoint in any way

Just saw Monsters Inc. again before I finally catch up on Monsters University. It's still a fucking great movie. A really simple yet very effective idea done amazingly perfect.

10/10 -> A

This has to be one of the most original films ever made. I still can't fathom how Pixar came up with this amazing idea for a movie. Though I personally enjoy Shrek more, it is clear that this is technically the superior film. The script is absolutely hilarious and ironic, and the opening to the movie sets the tone just perfectly. Mike Wazowski is my favorite Pixar character; he is hilarious. The one thing I'm not too crazy about is how syrupy the film becomes whenever Boo is on screen. She's really cute; but I was more invested in the monster world itself than the human child that was brought into it. Unfortunately, Monsters University is nowhere near as good as this, even though it is still a decent movie after all. I like Up, The Incredibles, Toy Story 1 and 3, Ratatouille and Finding Nemo better though.

A+

This was also my first movie in the theater. I saw it twice.

It really is! It's what drew me to it in the first place. Then the characters make you fall in love. But yeah, it is a very creative idea, and a well executed one too. I think Boo is just about the cutest thing I have ever seen on screen.

There was a show on Ah Real Monsters on Nickolodeon 10 years earlier and a film called Little Monsters starring Howie Mandel before that.

Execution is key, the premise has been around a while.

Where monsters scare kids to power their city? I doubt that very much.

Yeah at the time, this was Pixar's best movie, though it would be surpassed. The world and story are creative and the main characters are just so lovable, moreso than Buzz and Woody. And Randall is Pixar's best villain.

A+

Its an amazing world to be in and the time flies by always leaving you expecting more. The three leads are great in this and while I didn't enjoy Boo's first half in the Monster World once they move out of the house its such a thrill ride that ends with a twist and emotional roller coaster. I so wished they showed Boo in the final scene.
