Though a bit too tidily expository in the third act, Intruders (no relation to the Clive Owen vehicle from a few years ago) is a crafty inversion of the home-invasion film. A trio of minor-league criminals plan to burgle an old home during the owner's funeral, expecting it to be empty, but they instead chance upon the deceased's agoraphobic sister, who at first cowers, but then slowly gains control of the situation. What transpires is an entertaining, well-shot, and modestly inventive suspense film with a few left-field surprises and a decent ensemble, including nerd-comedy stalwart Martin Starr (Freaks and Geeks, Silicon Valley) cast against type as the most sadistic of the hoodlums.
