Re: The World's End
I thought it was shit. One of the worst movies this year. It wasn't funny, it was annoying. Thank god it's over.

It improves on repeat viewings.

Yeah, I don't think that happens with every movie I think is shit after a first viewing.

It was shit and a shocking disappointment after their previous fine work. You can see it in the KJ average of C+ for this movie compared to Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz at A-.

Re: The World's End
Agreed with Lecter. I've seen it three times and I've gotten so much more out of each viewing. Easy choice for my top 10 this year.

Re: The World's End
Absolutely agree as well. First time I really liked it, but thought it trailed the other two easily, now it's right up there and all three have major strengths making it hard to make a favorite for me.

The movie is awesome. Better than Hot Fuzz and on par With Shaun

Re: The World's End
I really fucking hated this movie. I absolutely love Shaun of the Dead and only found Hot Fuzz alright. I was looking forward to this though but it was just absolute shit. So boring and dull. I watched it two nights ago and it's pretty much already out of my brain.
4/10

Re: The World's End
Great film that deserves multiple viewings to enjoy, but not as good as Shaun of the Dead
1. Shaun of the Dead (A+) 2. The World's End (A-) 3. Hot Fuzz (A-)

Re: The World's End
Upon repeat viewings I am bumping this up to A, really underrated movie.

The World's End
Yeah, so I finally got around to watching this. I'd seen Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and both are good films. I prefer Hot Fuzz out of the two, and now out of all three, just. The World's End is like the other two in many ways. Unique takes on tried Hollywood genres. But Simon Pegg's comedy just isn't laugh-out-loud funny. I was never a fan of Spaced, for example. They are all quality entertainment with cool lines, good fun action, and are just generally interesting views, and when I watch them I am never bored or lose my attention. But I see them more as nods and winks to culture, brands, ideas, reputations, than comedy. Which is cool and everything, it's just that I always read people saying they are great comedies. In my opinion, they are not. They are fun movies, but not hilarious. Hot Fuzz is the closest one to being funny.
Anyway, it is a good movie. Great cast. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Pierce Brosnan, Rosamund Pike, Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman, and Bill Nighy. I mean, what a cast! But also there were great supporting turns by British faces that are probably unknown to American viewers. People such as Rafe Spall, Darren Boyd, Steve Oram, Michael Smiley, and David Bradley. So, films such as these are always appealing to me because of such familiarity with the talent involved, and settings used, and accents/dialogue used and so on.
Shaun of the Dead B Hot Fuzz B+ The World's End B+

Re: The World's End
I dig the whole Invasion of the Bodysnatchers thing, and when it kicks off it is a lot of fun. Smashing people's skulls in and ripping off limbs, and blue ink coming out is awesome to watch. I fantasized about how I would act if I were in the same danger. And, of course, I love the fact that it's all linked to a pub crawl. There's no standout performance or scene, but I always looked forward to Nick Frost's scenes than Pegg's or any of the others. I've always preferred him, especially in Hot Fuzz.
