Re: Man of Steel
Zod went straight from the Smallville "loss" to FUCK THIS SHIT WORLD ENGINE TIME.
Everyone is dying now. At least the other one is in the ocean only killing Aquaman's home.

Re: Man of Steel
Supes goes straight from fighting Faiora and the big dude, to fighting the World Engine, to Zod in the matter of a few Earth hours?! He's gotta be exhausted.

Re: Man of Steel
Despite the "9/11" imagery, the Jenny being rescued/World Engine being destroyed scene is super intense. Probably my favorite part of the film.

"The Kiss" would be fine, if it wasn't for the line after. Goyer does not know how to write for women.

Re: Man of Steel
Man did they need a buffer between the killing of Zod and the drone scene. Maybe a final flashback scene?! God damn. Is this a Marvel movie or something?!? Jesus, you're better than this. Two scenes in the movie that don't fit at all where they're put are the classroom flashback and the drone scene. But the drone scene really is the worst one. Remove it. I'd put this as an A+ without that scene. Instead, I'm going with a solid A.
9.5 hours left until Batman responds.

Re: Man of Steel
The Clark-Lois story is excellent, just tough to understand. Needed one more draft.

This movie is still awful Costner, Lane and the score are the few redeeming factors. Also, this thread has 23 pages?! People here are insane.

Re: Man of Steel
Clark being reluctant to share his powers with humanity until Lois shows his the potential depth of human understanding by not outing him is a great angle to take, IMO. It makes Lois look smart and builds a nice little bond between them.

I initially gave this a B but boy has this film grown on me as time went on.

It is a real shame that we haven't had a sequel to this.

I don't think we will see a true sequel to MoS anymore.

Re: Man of Steel
So, I just watched this again and it really is an enormous achievement by Zimmer. He makes the film. Also, regarding there being so much criticism about the final battle(s), it seemed so short on this viewing. No lingering whatsoever. It hopped from one to the other and then it ended. There are questionable things and some goofy moments, but if you're focusing on those and hating this film because of those, hating the film was your intention from the start. Anyway, still an A- for me, I love it.
Man of Steel 2 would have been so great. Seeing Clark balance his work/life between Daily Planet reporter and alien super-being, ala The Adventures of Lois and Clark, would have been very enjoyable. Instead we got BvS. Ugh.

Re: Man of Steel
here's some of what I originally wrote. I was wack Quote: Comparing this to pure entertainment level of the main blockbuster films so far:
1. Star Trek 2. IM3 3. FF6 4. MOS
Grade - B I really love this movie. The soundtrack is amazing and I just like the whole origin, visuals and overall plot. Regrading this it's a clear: Grade - A

Re: Man of Steel
this movie is underrated as hell IMO. lI ike the different portrayal of Superman in this. The villains are great, the cast is great and every role from Amy Adams to Russell Crowe to Christopher Meloni adds a lot, the action is incredible. Zimmer also really makes this movie
this is a true superhero epic. I wish we had gotten a sequel to this and not the mediocre messy BvS and the terrible Justice League

Re: Man of Steel
I just watched this for the 3rd time in its entirety, and I've grown to like it more each time.
While I found it was let down by some things I considered flaws upon first watch, they've by now gotten a backseat to the marvel this film actually is. I've become to love it. The Krypton opening always was and is just sublime. Once Lois enters the picture it takes the flow a bit out of the story for me, I've also just never connected with Adams as Lois Lane, although she's fine really. The film has some great sweeping moments further, whenever Superman exercises his power they're greatly shot. This has some of the best superhero action in a film ever and the score is just perfect throughout too. Every Clark-Costner moment is quite touching, while Russel Crowe is great as Jor-El too. The weakest part of the film remains the too heavily cgi'd fight with Zod in the end, and whichever way you put it, the Supes scream just feels awkward to me. The intro to Clark at the daily planet is a good final scene though and sets up some great excitement to MOS2, a film we've unfortunately haven't gotten yet.
Current grade: A-
Snyder has done not a perfect, but quite brilliant job with MOS that I find it very difficult to look to him for the failures of BvS and JL. MOS showed so much promise really of a great superman franchise, and that all got trampled with the forced creation of larger universe around it.

Re: Man of Steel
I liked Supes scream. Idk about him being held by Lois though. Whatever the case it's a trillion times more real than Vaders phony scream(s).

Re: Man of Steel
They're equally awkward for me, both just come out of nowhere, and no context is offered for either. I'm not sure what it was, that made them write into the script: "Character screams", and also to the actors they didn't explain and they just did it without question, it feels like that.

Re: Man of Steel
Why would something so obvious need an explanation? If you know anything about the character of Superman, you know he is against killing. And here he is, first-hand, breaking someone's neck. And not just someone, but the last Kryptonian besides himself. That has meaning. Superman wanted Kryptonians and humans to live side-by-side, and now with Zod dead that is not possible.
Morons will constantly repeat "but if he cared so much about human life, how about all the people that died in the battle with Zod?". Well, obviously Superman did not want those deaths to occur. He was fighting to protect Earth against an alien invasion. Collateral damage was always going to happen. When he kills Zod, there is a realisation because he has died right in-front of him and from his own actions. The first time he has killed someone in his entire life. I suppose you would kill someone for the first time and just shrug it off, huh?

Doesn't affect my view on the film, it's just an "I don't get it, blimp".

Re: Man of Steel
There was a recent Superman comic called All-Star Superman or something to that tune. This comic explores the idea that there is always another way; this refers to Superman's belief that there is always a morally good choice even when's odds are stacked against you, at least when you are Superman.
As a stand alone Superman movie, this was decent, but as the beginning thread to a DCU, this was a poor representation of Supes
