Bradley is anything but subtle. He's as blatant as fuck. He's just unusually deluded in his approach.

Funny that this just got bumped, as Matt Singer of The Dissolve wrote a good "One Year Later" column about how this was initially received, how that's changed over time, and how it holds up away from the hype.

The article starts out pretty good, and he makes some decent points. But then he starts ranting and misses the point on a whole bunch of shit.

Re: Man of Steel
This film does border on piece-of-shit territory. It is so damn ugly on an aesthetic level. I watched it a second time on HBO, and it does not improve upon repeat viewing.

Go and masturbate to Maleficent. That isn't necessary, because there'll be abundant women at a screening of Maleficent - - you won't be alone in an empty theatre like that weird guy watching Man Of Steel.

Man of Steel
I watched it again over the weekend. Great superhero film. Probably the best one I can think of. I am eagerly anticipating see Cavill as Superman again.

Re: Man of Steel
Currently watching, thoughts so far:
That opening Krypton sequence is still perfect. I'd be down for a Krypton prequel.
Clark rescues the drillers, legit cool... but then a flashback of him not being able to control his powers as a kid? Weird edit, first mistake.
Washes up on shore, sees a school bus, flashback to saving the school bus and getting a lecture from Pa Kent. I actually think this is all aces. Great time to edit this flashback in, and really poignant moment between father/son.

Re: Man of Steel
For real though, the post school bus talk/reveal that he's not human is so good.
Now we're to one of the few lighthearted moments of the film, with the douche in the bar and the destruction of the semi-truck. We start delving into the choices Clark has to make when confronting bullies.

Re: Man of Steel
We finally meet Lois, who is written a little too? sassy and quickly dives into damsel in distress mode. But oh well. Amy Adams has the attitude to pull most of it off.
Moving on to another one of my favorite parts, Clark learning his name and the history of Krypton. And learning how to FLY! Great stuff here, and the score really shines.

Re: Man of Steel
I think the learning to fly scene really helps out the Pa Kent death scene. Him learning some of his powers happened MANY years after he left home. You could very easily make the case that none of them/he didn't know what he was capable of, or if he could've saved his father. And he's still a kid, so despite his desire to save his father, it wasn't worth the cost.

You Are Not Alone really gives Zod a super menacing vibe. A bad-ass reveal to the World.

Another flashback! To another really great bullying moment, on when to fight and the basis of the goodness of Superman. What kind of man does he want to be?

Re: Man of Steel
When Superman turns himself in to the military is actually really the big starting point for the Lois/Clark relationship. Then we meet the rest of the Krypton Krew and Clark gets a preview of what Zod is planning for Earth. Everyone gon' die, bro.

Re: Man of Steel
The first DESTRUCTION... Zod threatens Ma Kent, and then goes crashing through silos and gas stations in Smallville. Superman's official first fight so far includes flying straight through shit and punching Zod in his fucking face.

Re: Man of Steel
This Smallville fight is awesome, really only destroyed those silos, that gas station, a bank and IHOP. Most/all of the fight is in the street with the military making a damn mess. Until that dude throws a fucking train into a Sears.
WTF is with the military firing rockets into a small town?!?
