Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
I think it's just too fast paced. Trekkies need their plots to burn very very very slowly. Like ten minutes of Shat staring out of a window, before another ten minutes of elevators, before another ten minutes of dramatic starring. That is what The Motion Picture is. And unfortunately that is what most episodes of the TV show are. Abrams and crew want to entertain people, Trekkies want it to be so boring that nobody else will like it. Then they can be special, just like Kirk.

This was good. It wasn't better than its predecessor but still very enjoyable and fun. I like the "new" ST movies much more than the old ones.

But this one is something else. It is a movie that actually does feel like the traditional second episode of a TV show. Where, in case people missed the first episode because they were having family night at Perkins or something, networks have always mandated that it, rather than go somewhere new, simply reestablish the premise and characters and relationships, basically acting as a second pilot. Thats what this is.
All they did was remake the first one. Ghostbusters 2 syndrome. Its fast and funny and fairly exciting but on a conceptual level is totally baffling to me. Frustrating to watch and a waste of a good opportunity, nailed it

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
B+...
I was never into Star Trek at any point, although I did enjoy the occasional episode of Star Trek: Voyager. The first part of this new reboot, I thought was good, fun, enjoyable but nothing outstanding either. With Into Darkness they topped the first part, with more action and very nice villainial stuff from Cumberbatch and Peter Weller. The cast of this movie is well done overall anyway, Pine is just perfect for the role and the rest complements it very well too, Cho, Urban, Zaldana, Quinto, even Yelchin, all suit the part and shine on the big screen. Oh, and I forgot about Simon Pegg, he has some good funny bits. There's just a few things in the film I found annoying, they're dangling above a pit, and then the next scene cuts and they're just all walking and about. I have a problem with this, it just doesn't look plausible they get out of that situation so easily, and to just skip the getting to it part is weak for me. Towards the end the ship crashing into the city and the fight on top of a transporter ship are quite dull, and makes you feel the length of the movie.
It's a very good summer blockbuster, that kept me well entertained, while there's plenty of Star Trek mythology I enjoyed picking up on as well.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
Not as good as the original but still decent popcorn flick. The biggest flaw its just too similar and routine to the original, it does not bring anything new to the table. The villain is great, the story is decent but it relies too heavily on Kirk and Spock. The finale is also a little abrupt when the middle half goes on a little longer but overall a great blockbuster.
