An enjoyable film because it is hard to resist the improbable, yet uplifting solidarity between the flashy London gays and the salt-of-the-earth Welsh miners, and there are many strong performances, but it is so overtly engineered for maximum crowd-pleasing impact. As a result, it sacrifices much of the depth and verisimilitude the story (and the history) demands.
