 The Deep End
The Deep End Quote: The Deep End is a 2001 film that was written and directed by David Siegel and Scott McGehee. It stars Tilda Swinton, Goran Visnjic, Jonathan Tucker and Josh Lucas and was released by Fox Searchlight Pictures. The film was very loosely adapted from the novel The Blank Wall by Elizabeth Sanxay Holding (filmed before by Max Ophüls as The Reckless Moment). The film premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival where English cinematographer Giles Nuttgens won the Best Cinematography award.

 Re: The Deep End
Can't find my original review, but I loved it when it came out, at least as much as anyone can love a sad movie such as this. And, of course, it contains another first rate performance by Tilda Swinton, acting goddess!

 Re: The Deep End
An unexpected gem that really transcends one's expectations for the melodrama. Swinton is fantastic, always furiously concerned. She's one of those actresses that can project inner turmoil so damn well. The film has a fantastic sense of style - really well photographed. In terms of construction, this works as a typical genre piece but deviates just slightly enough from the formula to keep you interested and impressed. No masterpiece, but a truly underrated gem.

 Re: The Deep End
So it's pretty much a lock that she's in this year?
She was no doubt the sixth nominee in 2002.

 Re: The Deep End
I saw this a year or two ago, and Tilda Swinton is truly outstanding in it.
I'm glad she'll likely be picking up an Oscar nom this year. It's about time.

I haven't seen this since it first came out on DVD, but it was great. I'm not sure what I'd rate it.

 Re: The Deep End
good film. script is a bit lazy though. Yeah Swinton is great, she's in basically every scene.

 Re: The Deep End
Just watched this for the first time since it was released on DVD. It's an expertly crafted thriller with a great performance from Tilda Swinton. Very enjoyable.
