Fairly awful, and feels totally different (tonally and formally) from the first two. I can understand the found footage concept wearing thin, but dropping it altogether just feels lazy.

I was they glad they dropped it and changed direction into making this a horror-comedy. I love the first film, but the second is just the less suspenseful repeat of the first. At least this tried something new and partially succeeded.

Way to murder a pretty good horror series. Holy crap, it was horrible. Why change EVERY SINGLE THING that made this series so good? I dont get it. Maybe its me because i dont like horror-comedies but I honestly didnt see the comedy aspect.

I've heard really good things about this. I've never seen the [REC] movies, but it's my understanding I wouldn't need to in order to watch this? Does it have the same main characters or anything?

A dog bite, thats the only reference from the other movies. You really need to see the first one.

well... since its pretty much a carbon copy of the original yeah, theres no need. Although the lead actress is much better and a wee bit scarier.

The lead actress is scarier? :P I actually really dig Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter though, who was the lead in the remake.

Post Re: [REC]³: Genesis
I just watched all three REC movies in preparation for Apocalypse, and while I love the first two, I think this is borderline genius in its own right... except that 99% of the movie is not a part of the REC franchise. I'm just not the type of person who has to hate it just because it has the REC name on it and lazily ties the first two movies into it. It has way too much fun to disregard it entirely.

Plus, that bride. She's straight out of Tarantino. And the ending is crazy.

Yeah, it lags in spots, but I'm glad they abandoned the found footage thing early on. And cleverly, I might add. My biggest issue with REC2 (and maybe a bit of REC) is why on earth would someone leave a camera in front of their face during this shit?

Anyway, fun movie.

REC: A-
REC2: B+
REC3: B
