 He Got Game
He Got Game Quote: He Got Game is a 1998 sports-drama film written and directed by Spike Lee. It stars Denzel Washington as Jake Shuttlesworth, a prison inmate convicted for murdering his wife. The father of the top-ranked basketball prospect in the country, Jesus Shuttlesworth (played by NBA star Ray Allen), Jake is released on parole for a week by the state's governor in order to persuade his son to play for the governor's alma mater in exchange for a heavily-reduced prison sentence.

He Got Game tells the story of Jesus, a very sought after high school basketball player who has no idea where he wants to go, things get even worst when his dad who killed Jesus's mother is released on parole to convince his son to sign up with the govenor's university, Big State.
A powerful performance by Denzel Washington really pushes the movie to something more, his performance as an imperfect man who wants and has the chance to reedem himself is as good as it gets. Sometimes the story of redemption between father and son is lacking, mostly due to Ray Allens pretty poor performance, but it still holds true. Rosario Dawson also gives a great performance as Jesus's girlfriend, she steals her scenes. Milla Jovovich does a good job as a prostitute who connects with Jake.
The score is great aswell, from the beginning montage to Public Enemy's He Got Game at the end, really bodes well with the movie.
Overall this is a gritty realistic and profound film, Spike Lee at his best. Make sure to check it out
Grade - A-
