Last Action Hero is a 1993 American action-comedy-fantasy film directed and produced by John McTiernan. It is a satire of the action genre and its clichés, containing several parodies of action films in the form of films within the film.
The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as Jack Slater, a fictional Los Angeles police detective. Slater is a fictional character even within the film, the hero of the Jack Slater series of action films. Austin O'Brien co-stars as a boy who is magically transported into a parallel universe inhabited by Slater and the other characters in the Slater film series. Schwarzenegger also plays himself as the actor portraying Jack Slater, and Charles Dance plays an assassin who escapes from the Slater world into the real world.
The film was a financial disappointment in its theatrical release, but it has since enjoyed success on VHS and DVD.

Last Action Hero
This is one great movie. A true blast and so much fun. The soundtrack is such a neat fit too, with AC/DC's "Big Gun" epitomising the movie. I just love it, and to think that when I first watched it (at around 8 years old), I couldn't understand the plot too well. I also love the cameos (Van Damme, Ian McKellen, T-1000 etc.) and references to Arnold Braunschnegger, Jack Slater IV and Hamlet with machine guns ("Who said I was fair?" and "To be or not to be....not to be" BOOM!) ... and then the references to the genre about there "always being a guy in the closet" etc., I just adore this movie.
Charles Dance is probably one of the best main villains in any movie here too, with The Ripper being one of the best secondary villains ever.

"Hey Clausius, you killed my father....Big mistake" Throws him 50 feet out a window. I could honestly watch an entire movie as brilliant as this mock trailer.
The first Arnold film I ever saw in theaters. It was his first big PG-13 action film after T2, and it flopped pretty badly. Watching it today, it is easily one of his and John McTiernan underrated films. It is a spoof first and foremost which I guess turned a lot of people off back then expecting something more straightforward, but the action, one liners, and Arnold are still first rate and play it straight which is why it works so much. Every kid's dream is to be able to jump into their favorite film, and this film succeeds most of the time. Sure there are some things that don't necessarily work, but this film is really fun from start to finish, and the score and soundtrack is just awesome.
