Staying Alive

Quote:
Staying Alive is the 1983 film sequel to Saturday Night Fever, starring John Travolta as dancer Tony Manero, with Cynthia Rhodes, Finola Hughes, Joyce Hyser, Steve Inwood, Julie Bovasso, and dancers Viktor Manoel, Kate Ann Wright, Kevyn Morrow and Nanette Tarpey. It was directed and co-written by Sylvester Stallone.

The title comes from the Bee Gees song, "Stayin' Alive", which was used as the theme song to Saturday Night Fever and is also played during the final scene of Staying Alive. This is the only film to date which Sylvester Stallone has written that he does not star in (although he does have an uncredited cameo).

Travolta's body in this is sensational, and that's down to Stallone. This movie is not bad, but it's not memorable either. Sly obviously had a knack with the camera even back then, and so it's a competent effort, I just think the story wasn't great, but the finale is fantastic. I can't dislike a film with the sign-off being "I'm gonna strutt".

Easily the strangest moment of Stallone's career.

"Strut"

It's kind of an unreviewable film. Some it is pretty good but, but the innocence of the original is missing and Tony just isn't the same character in a different era of music. That being said the idea of the film is pretty good, it's just awful at times as a direct sequel. Some good music and dancing, interesting direction, and some decent moments, but overall the movie just has no purpose unfortunately like Tony Monero in the movie.

I'm not sure I agree. I think Rhinestone is much stranger.
