Re: In Their Skin
A solid home-invasion suspense film. It quotes from other recent films in the same vein (such as Funny Games and The Strangers), but justifies its existence with strong performances from its small cast, including Selma Blair, and a potent atmosphere of ice cold isolation. The slow burning first 30 minutes are a tad more engaging and unpredictable than the conventional and violent last 15, but the film never lost my interest, and it has a modest, but clever visual twist: the delusional antagonists intend to steal their victims' identities and practice by observing and impersonating their gestures and fearful hysteria. Scenes of this playing out have a certain perverse power.
