The Three Stooges
The Three StoogesQuote: The Three Stooges is a 2012 American slapstick comedy film based on the early to mid-20th century shorts by the comedic trio The Three Stooges. It was produced, written and directed by the Farrelly brothers and co-written by Mike Cerrone. It stars Chris Diamantopoulos, Sean Hayes, and Will Sasso recreating the eponymous characters played by Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard. The film's story places the Stooges in a modern setting.
After over a decade and casting problems, principal photography took place from May to July 2011. The film was released on April 13, 2012, and is rated PG in the US (for slapstick action violence, some rude and suggestive humor including language) by the MPAA rating system. The movie has been criticized for anti-Catholicism for scenes involving nuns.

That's not saying much.

Re: The Three Stooges
The Stooges were for kids and they're still for kids, which is my nice way of saying that it's completely harmless, but not very funny. I was smiling through most of the movie, but I wasn't laughing very much. That saying I don't think they could've done any better. Maybe if Carrey had gone on to play Curly that'd be one thing, but based on his recent comedy track record, I'm not sure, but the cast is certainly not to blame here. Neither are the Farrelly Brothers. I think the problem is simply that what was once funny 80 years ago doesn't exactly hold up today, except maybe for little kids.
And how do you have a scene with the Stooges in a hospital and not have the famous, "Calling Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine", in there?

Re: The Three Stooges
Harmless slapstick fun. There were touches in this film that I found hilarious. The company names in the office building, the warning for kids at the end (the casting of it), Kate Upton as a lifeguard nun in a bathing suit...
Unfortunately, most of the slapstick only made me smile, it wasn't very funny. Probably would be to little kids though.

The Three Stooges
This was torture. Absolutely unbearable. I only watched it because of Larry David, and while his character was watchable (akin to his general personality), the rest was crap. Now, I did not expect modern wit or a reinvention of the wheel - I knew they would pay tribute to the real Stooges - but for the Farrelly brothers to think that this brand of "comedy" would slide in 2012, it's crazy.

I really feel bad for giving this the lowest of the low. I really like Larry David, and his performance is enjoyable.
