It's problematic on at least a couple levels, but still enjoyably amusing. Jay Baruchel is super annoying in this though.

Seann William Scott does what he can with this and makes it somewhat enjoyable at times. However, the entire thing is a bit too choppy going from scene to scene and the shtick gets a bit tiring. I'll agree that Baruchel was annoying here which is a shame since I like him as a comedic actor.

Eh, tonally it was all over the place. Seann William Scott playing a simple-minded, passionate, Jewish ex-bouncer just doesn't wash with me. Jay Baruchel was just an annoying moron. The Kit Harington look-a-like was just a brat. Live Schrieber was cool, but ultimately wasted. The only one that makes Goon worthwhile is the one, the only, the legend ... Kim Coates!

I did enjoy the fights (as I am shocked that this behaviour is "allowed" in a professional sport) but it was mixed into a storyline that has dollops of stupid romance and locker room banter. There was no flow to the proceedings.

That's the thing I enjoyed most about this film (as well).

I like how it was filmed for the most part, with nice cold environment, the shots of the surroundings were pretty good. The score is mixed bag, with mixed results, good here, bad there.

As a sports film it's pretty bad, because it's just overly cliched like any run of the mill sports film (this doesn't have to be bad, I generally enjoy that actually), it doesn't tell you anything about the sport, and it also doesn't takes itself seriously in anyway. The drama bits are just pretty bad, and I have no connect with any of the characters.

The coach, Schrieber and also Laflamme actually, they had their nice bits, but this SWS seems so suitable for the role, but he's just a douche and not appealing as lead.
