This Means War is an upcoming 2012 romantic comedy action film directed by McG. The film stars Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy as victims of a love triangle in which two CIA agents and best friends (Pine and Hardy) discover that they are dating the same woman (Witherspoon).

Somewhat enjoyable in a mindless, breezy way, This Means War is ultimately doomed to forgettable status by a mostly weak script and a lack of chemistry between the main actors (Reese Witherspoon has relatively little with either Chris Pine or Tom Hardy, and two guys have even less with each other). C+

I liked it.

It's not a great script. I mean, I know the subplot with the bad buy was supposed to be just that, but...it was really pointless. And so many of the action elements of the movie were unintentionally funny. Like, of course the bridge isn't complete, right? But as a comedy, I enjoyed it. It's fun throughout. And even though it should have been obvious how it was going to end, I was a little surprised.

Spoiler: show
When the car was flipping through the air (lolz), I honestly expected Lauren to be in the middle and end up with neither one. But clearly, she got over the "you guys are friends? I trusted you" thing quickly.

I can't believe she chooses Chris Pine over Tom Hardy. :P

Yeah, that was surprising too. She seemed like she liked Tom Hardy's character more throughout the film, especially initially. But I guess they hinted that there was something between him and his wife still.

Yeah, it was a more convenient resolution.

Chris Pine is Captain Kirk, he always gets his girl, and even girl-like creatures.

This movie wasn't very good at all, it felt like it was a million hours long. :P The only part that made me laugh was when Pine shot out Chelsea Handler's tire and she said "SHIIIIIIIIT" and she had this funny look on her face. ;)

4/10

It's good to know you can still trick a dumb broad into falling in love with you, right McG?

I liked it. It felt edited like crazy to keep it PG-13. I like the 3 leads. Script was kinda weak, but I laughed a lot and that's what it was intending, so mission accomplished.

Tom Hardy is so far above this movie that he could nuke it from orbit.

Chelsea Handler needs to leave all things media, she is just completely unfunny. For the rest of the film, I just thought it was way more predictable than usual (outside of the final choice which was a little surprising. Not many of the jokes work though there are a couple decent scenes. It was just awkward seeing Hardy here. Also, the entire enemy subplot is distracting.

This Means War

Great action comedy. Really fun, humorous, slick, hot girls, hot guys, it's all there. It was obvious from the minute I saw Tuck's ex-girlfriend and son that he would not end up with Lauren, and that was rather annoying because I felt he was the better catch (plus it seemed like he won all the mini battles throughout the film), but it all kind of ended well, I suppose. The family is back together and the playboy got the girl that he deserved. Tom Hardy has such charisma, that I just love the guy. But he always seems to walk with a hunchback and like he's a mafia henchman. While short, he looks solid, and would definitely fuck up pretty-boy Pine in a real fight. I wish they made a sequel where they actually went off to do a mission and Witherspoon somehow got in the way and they both had to save her.

I thought This Means War was a great fun ride. McG is a very good director from what I've seen of him so far. He makes good, enjoyable films.

B+
