Bottle Rocket is a 1996 comedy film directed by Wes Anderson. It was co-written by Anderson and Owen Wilson. As well as being Wes Anderson's directorial debut, Bottle Rocket was the debut feature for brothers Owen Wilson and Luke Wilson, who co-starred with James Caan and Robert Musgrave.

The movie was a commercial failure but launched Anderson's career by drawing attention from critics. Director Martin Scorsese later named Bottle Rocket one of his top-ten favorite movies of the 1990s.

Bottle Rocket is also the name of a short film —shot in 1992 and released in 1994— directed by Anderson upon which the feature-length film was based.

The entire film was shot in Dallas, Fort Worth and Hillsboro, Texas.

There is a little bit to wonder where exactly the film is going when the hotel scene is longer than expected (though the time spent here has some good moments), but this comedy really shines at times. Both Wilsons work well together and have their shining moments leading to a truly hysterical last 15 minutes. It also has typical Wes Anderson moments but also doesn't feel like one of his films at other points.

Sometimes aimless, but always amusing. Here is a very promising start to 3 careers that, in my opinion, totally fulfilled their promise. Its not the best movie of Wes Anderson or either of the Wilsons, but it belongs in the same conversation as those best movies. Owen Wilson wearing the Gary Busey hair is an all time sight gag all on its own.

The 90s are redeemed ... for now. :P

I remember finding this a bit disappointing. Anderson was too raw.
