Quote:
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is a 1994 Australian comedy-drama film written and directed by Stephan Elliott. The plot is based on the journey of three drag queens who travel across the Australian Outback from Sydney to Alice Springs in a tour bus that they have named "Priscilla", along the way encountering various different groups and individuals. The Adventures of Priscilla stars Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, and Terence Stamp as the three drag queens, one of whom is a heterosexual trans woman with the other two being homosexual. Containing elements of comedy, the film's title is a pun on the fact that in English speaking cultures, "queen" is a slang term for a male homosexual.

The film was noted for helping to bring Australian cinema to world attention and for its positive portrayal of LGBT individuals, helping to introduce LGBT themes to a mainstream audience. Alternatively, the film has also been criticised for perceived racist and sexist stereotyping.

The film received predominantly positive reviews and won an Academy Award for Best Costume Design at the 67th Academy Awards. It was also screened in the Un Certain Regard section of the 1994 Cannes Film Festival[2] and became a cult classic in both Australia and abroad. Priscilla subsequently provided the basis for a musical, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, which opened in 2006 in Sydney before travelling to New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Canada and New York's Broadway.

Haven't seen this one in a looooong time. Loved it back in the day. C'mon - Terrence Stamp, Guy Pierce, and Hugo Weaving in drag? How could you go wrong!

It was...funny. But not as good as I was hoping. The production values weren't very good which was unfortunate, and really took down the overall quality of the film. B

It's THE ADVENTURES OF Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Well-acted and funny film all-around, though the subplot regarding the son could've been tightened and not just introduced towards the end of the flick. One of the few (color) movies set in contemporary time to win the Oscar for Best Costume Design and it shows why.

Oh, I've been to Georgia and California and anywhere I could run
I took the hand of a preacher man and we made love in the sun
But I ran out of places and friendly faces because I had to be free
I've been to paradise but I've never been to me...

Oh, I've been to Niece and the Isle of Greece while I've sipped champagne on a yacht
I've moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo and showed 'em what I've got
I've been undressed by kings and I've seen some things that a woman ain't supposed to see
I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me

Heh, Terrence Stamp was fantastic here. I really wish the film would've been a bit more focused on his character instead of Hugo Weavings. The film doesn't really amount to much - lots of really memorable scenery and camp glamour. It has certainly earned its spot among the very best of camp queen cinema.

And someone fix the damn title of the thread!

A+

Terence Stamp should have been Oscar nominated for this.
