 Bend It Like Beckham Bend It Like Beckham Quote: Bend It Like Beckham is a 2002 comedy-drama film starring Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley, Jonathan Rhys Myers and Archie Panjabi first released in the United Kingdom. The film was directed by Gurinder Chadha. Its title comes from the football player David Beckham and his skill at scoring from free kicks by "bending" (curving) the ball past a wall of defenders.

Surprisingly fun comedy. It doesn't seem like it would be all that great, but Kiera Knightley and Jonathan Ryes-Myers deliver superb performaces, as well as Parminder Nagra. The comedy is infectious, and overall the film is just enjoyable.

It's a sweet and quite amusing movie that introduced Keira Knightley to wide audiences. The acting by both lead girls is pretty good and the movie is fairly amusing in its approach of culture clash, but overall I think it is rather forgettable. Still, nice and light fun, it is.
