Re: Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work
Anyone considering getting into the entertainment business would surely do well to watch Joan Rivers: A Piece Of Work, it's an eye opener...
Actually, strike that, anyone considering being an entrepreneur of any stripe would surely do well to watch Joan Rivers: A Piece Of Work, it's an eye opener...
Her devotion to "the career" is mind-blowing, yet her self-criticism remains bitingly sharply. This documentary really is a special opportunity to trully see one complex person's process close-up - - but then hasn't that been Joan's MO right from the start? Damn right, she might say (if she were censoring herself) - - her humor is explicitly truthful to the point of instructively offensive.
I can't recall been blown away by any documentaries this year so far, so this easily vaults to the top of my list. I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if I see another doc this good in 2010. It is extremely entertaining, intriguingly insightful, and slightly subversive. Joan Rivers: A Piece Of Work is a very fine film.
16 out 5.

Re: Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work
I really, really enjoyed seeing Joan's one-woman show when it came through Springfield last winter. She was amazing!
I'm really looking forward to seeing A Piece of Work, especially seeing Terry Wayne Sanders in it. He's a brilliant full-on impersonator of Joan (as just one of MANY MANY characters he portrays throughout the year).
