Re: Ondine
Ondine is a charming romantic film that doesn't go all out to find its heart. Colin Farrell and Alicja Bachleda work well together here and actually seem to work more realistically as a couple then other films of the sort that have come out this year. The scenery is particularly and beautifully nice to look at. This element also adds to the film not going all out to gets it message. It also has a creative script to go with while also striking enough emotion when needed. The film does go a bit too mysterious and action packed in the third that it really differs from the tone the film had been setting up and should of been done without. Though bits and pieces of this odd turnabout did help make the ending a bit more reassuring. Though Bachleda pulls in a strong performance the film's true star is young Alison Barry as Alice who keeps the two lovebirds together while also bringing some interesting elements to the film. It's a sweet romance in the end and is one of the independent field's better films so far this year. ***
