Spellbound (1945)
SpellboundQuote: Spellbound is a psychological mystery thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1945. It tells the story of the new head of a mental asylum who turns out not to be what he claims. The film stars Ingrid Bergman, Gregory Peck, Michael Chekhov and Leo G. Carroll. It is an adaptation by Angus MacPhail and Ben Hecht of the novel The House of Dr. Edwardes (1927) by Hilary Saint George Saunders and John Palmer (writing as "Francis Beeding").

Re: Spellbound (1945)
In between the overture and the exit music lies quite a rich story or murder and psychoanalysis. For a film of 78 years, it is surprisingly well made and abundant in thought-provoking and relatable ideas. I didn't enjoy it as much as, say, Rope or Dial M for Murder - those are a bit more glossy and a bit more exciting - but nevertheless it is an engaging film, and I'm just a person that loves to spend two hours in a bygone era.
I didn't see the twist coming. The film feels refreshingly modern for such an oldie. The Dali-esque dream sequence is wonderful - my favourite part of the film (Dali is my favourite artist). The gun following Bergman out the door then turning in on the killer. Lots of stuff here feels impressive for 1945, but then that's what you expect from Hitchcock, and why he is the master.
