Clearly. If I can't like shitty horror films from the 70s, what can I like?

Shitty horror films from 2010 apparently.

But the final gag (though obviously in step with the whole 1970s paranoia vibe the movie played with) seemed too cruel after so much suffering--I'm assuming it was Romero's.

Agreed. I didn't like that at all.

The movie was "good" though. Nothing amazing. The characters were pretty likable and it has a few scenes that are very good, but overall the movie as a whole isn't terribly memorable.

I can see how someone who saw this in theaters might find it boring. I enjoyed it on DVD, but it just seems like something that would play better on the small screen.

Maybe it's just me, but I loved the ending? :funny: I'm glad they didn't go with the other two options TDS mentioned. I liked the "completely fucked" ending.

I could write some more, but just take everything BennyBlanco said and assume that I thought the exact opposite. That's just easier.

The Crazies starts out with a solid enough premise for a horror film but ends up following into typical territory near the end. The cast is average at best and what can be expected from a horror film. Half of the scares however are just from people the victim already knows and a good bit of the other scares can be seen coming before the scare occurs. Also, the film continues to bring up more and more questions and them not being resolved within the movie. Why set up these camps to separate the people? What was with the radar showing the different cities? Other questions also arise and leave the film feeling unfinished and weak. *1/2

Post Re: The Crazies (2010)
Too much of a good thing. The Crazies is like the ultimate horror movie theme park ride. It squeezes every single jump and jolt out of it audience. By eliminating the government's perspective, the military becomes just as much of monsters as the "I can't believe they're not zombies!" But as well executed as many individual scares are, they became rather repetitive. At some point it becomes clear that Olyphant and Mitchell are going to keep encountering survivors, an action/horror set piece will end with all those extras slaughtered, and then the indestructible couple will move on. By the time they outrun a nuclear bomb, it had become outright silly.

But hey, there are plenty of self-indulgent movies not nearly this good at what they do.

I hate the majority of horror films I see, but I really liked this one.

6/10 -> C

It offers nothing new, in fact it serves scenes we've seen over and over in movies like this. But it does it in a very decent fashion, I have to admit that.
