Gigantic is a 2008 independent comedy film directed by Matt Aselton and starring Paul Dano, Zooey Deschanel, John Goodman, Edward Asner and Jane Alexander. The script, written by Aselton and his college friend Adam Nagata, tells of Brian (Dano), a mattress salesman who wishes to adopt a baby from China but is sidetracked when he meets the quirky, wealthy Harriet (Deschanel). The story was based on Aselton's childhood wish for his parents to adopt a Chinese baby. The film was shot in New York and Connecticut. It had its world premiere at 2008's Toronto International Film Festival and was released in the United States on April 3, 2009.

Post Re: Gigantic
Gigantic is a charming first entry for director Matt Aselton. The film follows Brian (Paul Dano), a mattress salesmen who is in the process of adopting a child overseas. One day he runs into Harriet (Zooey Deschanel) also known as "Happy" who is testing out a mattress that her dad Al (John Goodman) is buying for her. After Brian delivers the mattress, the two form a bit of a relationship that has its ups and downs with some conflicts revolving around Happy's past. Dano and Deschanel shine in their roles and although it doesn't go above and beyond the general romance film, the end result is still charming. Some pacing is a bit off and confrontations between Brian and a homeless guy (Zach Galifianakis) are out of place and doesn't match with the plot but in the end its good. **1/2
