Laura
LauraQuote: Laura is a 1944 American film noir directed by Otto Preminger. It stars Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews and Clifton Webb. The screenplay by Jay Dratler, Samuel Hoffenstein, and Elizabeth Reinhardt is based on the 1943 novel of the same title by Vera Caspary.
In 1999, Laura was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". The American Film Institute ranked the film #73 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Thrills, the score #7 in AFI's 100 Years of Film Scores, and it was ranked the fourth best film in the mystery genre in AFI's 10 Top 10.

Re: Laura
a slightly forgettable movie, even though it has vincent price as an abiturient. i prefer fritz lang's little mysterious noirish film from the same year.

It's better than Woman in the Window.

Re: Laura
I feel this film is a bit outdated. The one big twist ( ) this "whodunit" movie relies on to wow the audience has been used so many times since in many other movies/tv series and has become redundant and unrealistic. The movie is also dialogue-driven, better suited for a stage play or tv movie. C+

Re: Laura
I love it. On my 1940s top-ten list. Perfectly acted. Incredibly atmospheric. Suspenseful with an almost perverse undercurrent. Of its time, yet timeless, too. Gene Tierney is beyond sexy.
Otto Preminger's Angel Face is also a fantastic film noir.

Re: Laura
The character Laura is either badly written or badly acted. She seems so detached from all the events in the film while she is a central character. Waldo (played by Clifton Webb) is very good as he displays traits of narcissism and drops hints of jealousy here and there.
