It's a dark and depressing movie. There's no happiness at all. At least Laurie starts the TC in an okay place. She doesn't even get that.

Can you tell some of the differences from the theatrical cut? I'm very excited to check it out on DVD.

Off the top of my head -- (MAJOR SPOILERS)

- During the hospital chase, Laurie falls into a pit of bodies; every member of the hospital staff Michael killed.

- Laurie and Annie have a fight at breakfast.

- Laurie's scene with Margot Kidder is darker. Laurie looks at a Rorschach painting and sees a white horse.

- Loomis' book lecture is longer. He basically makes fun of Michael for not accepting the loss of his mother, then says he was a father figure to him ("and all boys want to kill their fathers").

- Laurie has a second scene with Margot Kidder. She completely freaks.

- Another fight between Laurie and Annie (glimpsed in the Nights in White Satin trailer -- "you act like you're the only one whose life got trashed.")

- Michael ends up looking at a billboard for Loomis' new book, and his mother says Loomis is profiting off their pain.

- Michael sees his mother in the strip club before killing the owner and stripper.

- When Brackett finds Annie, clips of a very young Danielle Harris are intercut.

- Ending: in the barn, Michael's mother says "we are ready." We cut outside. Michael and Loomis burst through the wall. Michael rips his mask off, screams "DIE!", and stabs Loomis. The cops open fire and blow Michael away. Laurie walks out, distant. She takes Michael's knife, stands over Loomis -- and a trigger-happy cop shoots her three times. There's a shot with Michael, Laurie, and Loomis, all dead or dying (a remixed "Love Hurts" playing over it). Close-up of Laurie, then it dissolves to the long hallway, which is actually her last thought before death and not an asylum.

I knew I was gonna hate this ... and I was right. That's on me. But I felt compelled to finish the series for the sake of completionism. And ... the hospital scene at the beginning is kind of OK (what the hell is Octavia Spencer doing in this?), so that makes it slightly better than 5 and 9. Very slightly. Rob Zombie is a fantastic live performer and I'd recommend everyone see him in concert. But I don't think I'll ever watch another one of his trailer-park-trash-ugly-ass films.
