The Awakening
A solid period ghost film from BBC Films. It captures the period eerieness better than The Woman in Black, and the cast don't have any baggage so they're all believeable in their roles. Rebecca Hall is actually quite tasty too in a Pride & Prejudice kind of way. The film has a few scares, but it's not the main focus. The twist at the end isn't great but for low-key horror movie like this it's passable. I actually quite enjoyed it. The cast is made up of British television actors and they are all great, perhaps I just watched it at the correct time. It's also part love story. It's a slow feature, but it keeps your interest, and for those that like period British films, I'd check this out, you might find something here.

Re: The Awakening
I want to see this a lot. It never opened nearby, so I have to wait for Blu-ray.

Re: The Awakening
A satisfying and sound ghost story in the thematic and visual spirit of The Others. Rebecca Hall shines as always in the lead role, and each technical element, from the almost monochromatic color palette to the gothic and sumptuous production design and set decoration, is spot-on. It is mystifying why this received such an anemic and quiet release stateside, moving in and out of just a handful of theatres unburdened by actual advertising. It is a superior retro genre exercise.

Yes, this is quite good and underrated.
