Blue Crush is a great summer B-movie. The experience of surfing is intensely and realistically portrayed, overlayed with a hip soundtrack, and graced by very physical performances by the four female leads. Even though I'm a story oriented person, this movie is carried by it's emotional narrative more than a traditional plot.

It sure is nice to see the power and beauty of the ocean shown almost as a character in this movie and the natural beauty of the actresses (read: no fake boobs). A bonus is that the film also shows you the real mechanics of learning to surf instead of just the superhuman wonder surfers. A second bonus is that it is that rarest of genre pics - - the authentic Grrrrrl Power movie - - there's only one or two movies in any given year as pro-girl as this one.

This is the most realistic non-documentary portrayal of surfing I've seen and a most enjoyable night at the movies...
