No surprise, but I loved it. Had so many great moments.

I laughed more in the 'delivery guy' scene than I have in theaters in at least a year. I liked it a lot.

Very funny. The movie has several huge laughs and also works well as a sweet-natured romantic comedy. This is mostly due to Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks (who I'm convinced will be a big star one day), who bring immense charm and likability to their roles. It's not amazing, but I had a really good time and this is probably Kevin Smith's best movie since Chasing Amy. B+

P.S. Jason Mewes has really cleaned up from his druggie/weird disappearing act/Jay days. He almost looked, dare I say, attractive in this movie?

I loved this movie. It was hilarious. Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks in my opinion were perfectly cast for their roles of Zack and Miri. Good job Kevin Smith.

I expect so little from Kevin Smith that I'm not wasting my time seeing it...

Saw it today after school. Hilarious. Not as raunchy as I wanted it to be but it had one of the most disgustingly hilarious scenes I have ever seen. I laughed for about 5 minutes after it. Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks were really charming and sweet together. Justin Long is hilarious in his cameo, "What's that one movie you were in that you were talking about? "Shut your mouth before I shove my cock in it?". It's one of those movies that really establishes itself and it's a lot of fun. More of a romcom than anything but a good one at that. B+

When Roger Ebert's much-reviled Idiot Plot showed up in the last 20 minutes, my disappointment with the movie became something akin to loathing.

Where the hell did they sink the $30+ million? It's not on screen.

Definitely a case of hit and miss. The comedy half of this movie is atrocious. It feels like what would happen if this film was left to a group of 16 year olds who have Smith and Apatow movies on constant repeat, and what would result of their best attempt to ape them. Fuck + cum + nigga + overacting to a ridiculous level... rinse and repeat. Nothing shows this better than the coffee owner's opening scene or when we meet Craig Robinson (in usually bad form)'s wife at the end. Rogan is as guilty as anyone, in most of the comedy scenes he takes his "Seth Rogan" schtick and takes it way, way over the edge to an almost unbearable level. The result of this overacting, is that you lose the natural cuss dialog feel of Apatow's films or some of Smith's in the past, and you just end up with again, the feel of a crappy script written by a group of 16 year olds who think being as dirty and loud as you can is funny. Even gold set-ups like a high school reunion and having Justin Long and Brandon Routh as lovers just feels... whatever. Oh, and what was the point of the whole Star Whores thing? It could've been literally been cut right out of the movie and flowed sensically with like two lines of dialog switched.

So why is the movie not a disaster? Because the romance works. It really, really works. Most of this is due to Banks... you could make the case that her facial acting or 'looks of love' were too noticeable, but I think Smith intended this movie to have an obvious ending from the beginning... In any case, those looks gave me goosebumps, for the first time in forever I can remember in a romcom. The whole delivery guy sequence from the conversation beforehand to the culmination of it, is total magic... it's also the funniest part of the film, unsurprisingly. The end... even though I would agree with yosh that it does follow the formula, I can't say I wasn't genuinly happy when it did. And again it's not like the end result wasn't obvious from the beginning... it was supposed to be.

Someone needs to tell Smith it's okay if he takes his movies more seriously. It's no surprise his best films and arguably only 'great' films, Chasing Amy and Clerks 2, were the ones that succeeded most in that area. I know Jersey Girl failed, but that's because it just wasn't him. I'd like to see him make more entire movies of the sentimental Smith showed in CA, and the 30% of Clerks 2 and this that went that route.

Bit tough to put an overall grade on this one. 70% of the movie is as bad as anything this year. But I can't deny this movie made me feel, which was enough for me to walk out happy. That's enough I guess to give it a positive grade.

dammit people, this movie is very funny.

Not like consistently hilarious or anything, but definitely very funny. Craig Robinson was fantastic.

Question (and it might be a stupid one, but I don't know)... I'm pretty sure Kevin Smith is credited as starring in the film in the beginning, and I thought he was the guy who comes into the coffee shop for coffee but his face his never shown (when Zack is having a fit about his life being shit). Was that him? It's not on IMDB or anything.

Overall very good with a lot of good laugh, not overly hysterical, but I had a great time. Its probably the worst of Smith's Best films, but its definitely fun.

And Shack, I think the Star Whores thing was left in so it would A. Be a surprise, and B. it was a hysterical parody. Big standout was Katie Morgan, she's definitely the best acting pornstar I've ever seen in film.

Hella funny, but hella predictable. Easily a movie i can see myself rewatching a few times over the years. I gave it a solid B.

A humorous yet disappointing outing from K Smith. Z&M begins Smiths journey out of Jersey and I was kind of hoping he'd make it father than Pittsburgh. This felt more like something Apatow would've skipped over than a true Kevin Smith film. Sure the basic outline was their but overall it felt like something was either missing or left half hearted. The only real standout of the film was Craig Robinson, he is quickly becoming one of my favorite comedic actors, he just stole the show. Rogen and Banks had good chemistry but lacked believability, while the rest of the cast was believable but lacking chemistry. It was good to see Mewes cleaned up and healthy and I liked the homage to Romero. Here's hoping Zack & Miri is just the first awkward step for Smith towards a whole new universe of characters and possibility.

Grade C+/B-

Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks are terrific leads, each turning in performances that worked on both a comic and dramatic scale. And the smaller characters in the film (Craig Robertson, Jason Mewes, Brandon Routh, even that real-life pornstar chick) were just as fun to watch. Smith's smart dialogue is there, as usual. And it's a really great concept... in fact, such a great concept, that the movie feels like such a missed opportunity. I hadn't realized how much potential a comedy about making a porno was, until I watched this and felt let down by how far they never ended up taking scenes. So in the end, I liked it, but felt so disappointed, knowing that with more effort on Smith's part, I could have really loved it.

It's fantastic for about the first hour. Then as Yoshue and Shack mentioned, Smith turns his characters into morons simply because he needs some tension in the third act. Actually without the contrived setup there is no third act. Smith is a pretty damn good writer, but he got really lazy here. The scene right before Zack leaves for three months (how he went away for so long and yet was so easily brought back.....I don't know.) is just flat out poorly written. If someone takes charge there in the conversation like anyone would do, there's no tension. But as I said before that also rules out most of the second half unless he wanted to focus on the payment issues (I assume they're fine? The ending never really let's us know, though I think we're supposed to assume that), but what's the fun in that really?

Thanks to Rogen and Banks though the third act doesn't completely collapse. Actually, Rogen and Banks make the material better than it really is. I like Smith as I mentioned before, but excluding the third act this is probably his weakest material to date. It's still good, but without the performances from Rogen and Banks I don't even want to imagine what this could've been. Take for instance "the big scene". As several people have mentioned already it's the best scene in the film. But it also contains one of the best pieces of acting I've seen all year simply because it felt real. Watch Elizabeth Banks' face as she falls backwards onto the pile of coffee beans. Her face is able to convey about six different emotions at once and all of them are right on the money. With someone else they would've just fallen backwards and sighed. She didn't. Then again she could pretty much do anything and I'd still think it'd be great so maybe take that with a grain of salt.

Hilarious and, amidst all of the extreme vulgarity, really sweet. Elizabeth Banks is so gorgeous. I love her. Her and Rogen made the perfect Zack and Miri. She is just so charming and talented. Trust me, someday she'll be an Oscar nominee and maybe winner. We could have a future Meryl Streep on our hands. Justin Long was really funny in his cameo as a gay porn actor. And Jason Mewes was actually really cute here. Thank you Kevin Smith for showing us his penis!

I'm glad I didn't shut it off right away because there's more in about the middle of the credits. Most people will end up missing it though so I really think they should have had it sooner after the movie ended, especially since a lot of people will likely be wondering what became of their porno and such.

This is definitely one of Smith's better movies, up there with Clerks and Chasing Amy. It's also one of the year's best comedies.
