Re: Batman Returns
I've dismissed the movie for years, but damn what a diamond in the rough. Not only one of Burton's best but one of the the best Batman movies

One of my favorite movies ever. Really love how the villains are a twisted mirror of Batman's characteristics. Pfeiffer and DeVito are amazing, some of the best villain performances ever. Walken kicks ass too. The music is awesome once again from Danny Elfman. Looks great on Blu-ray too, which can't really be said about a lot of films from that time period.

Re: Batman Returns
This being so enriched in Burtonesque aesthetics allows it to age much better

Re: Batman Returns
This is a step up from the original merely because the villains, especially Catwoman are more interesting. Batman remains underwritten even though Keaton does his best. Really amazing costumes, makeup, sets, etc. and the film overall was just more exciting than the first.

Re: Batman Returns
Thinking back and reimagining my teenage self: A+
Batman (1989) was a shocker. The dark, murky nature was a surprising twist on the character and an absolute delight, a total 180 degrees from the campy TV series. Batman Returns was even better.
Looking back, both those films are goofy but I can't hold it against them. At the time they were amazing.
I know this is about Batman Returns but actually, that 1989 summer remains one of the all-time greats. I anticipated Last Crusade more than Batman! And, I thoroughly enjoyed Honey I Shrunk the Kids which I saw before Batman (I believe they came out around the same time). Later on, I came to appreciate Lethal Weapon 2, Dead Poets Society, Ghostbusters 2, When Harry Met Sally, and Parenthood....all these films mentioned were released weeks from each other!
