Wow.

Now here's a fine film... an old school movie by Academy Award nominated director Peter Cattaneo. It's a simple story of two bands: Vesuvius and A.D.D. and the drummer they shared. It's a subversively positive take on reality compared to this summer's other comedy films Zohan, Pineapple, Tropic and Brothers. This one's got heart and heaps of it...

Rainn rules, but so do his bandmates Curtis, Matt, and Emma!

A great movie!!!

27 out of 5.

In Memoriam

I would like to personally take a moment to mourn this, the last big screen appearance of Christina Applegate's original breasts. She certainly has made the most of them in her performance career to date, something I'm sure we have all been grateful for, and which we will all be able to review in perpetuity through the magic of digital media. I believe that from my limited view of her positive attitude and integral sense of humor that she will continue to thrive and thrill us all with future films and more. But at this particular passing, I bow my head and pray...

An very enjoyable film.

The story was well told, and the execution was well paid off. A pleasant surprise.

This was one of those films I was glad that I hung in there for it. This starts out really rough and at one point I was ready to walk out but it slowly turned into a decent film. Rainn was Rainn and he continued to show why his role on the Office is limited to what it is. What saved this film are the kids in the band. The music they played is disposable pop crap. But the chemistry between them was great and Cattaneo allowed them to develop into characters we could actually care about. Not the best summer comedy but enjoyable none-the-less.

Grade B

C'mon!!!

This is much too good a movie for nobody here at KJ to go see in it's original release. Sure - - know nothing general filmgoers are gonna miss a nice little gem like this because of the mass media deflection field that has been implemented - - but experienced film fans such as we have here in our little world of king jesus (or whatever the hell that stands for), are not going to fall for such an obvious ploy...

Go see The Rocker and dare to tell me I'm wrong!

(BTW... it's not a School of Rock knock off, as I've heard bandied about - - it's another story entirely - - don't be misled. Anyways, SOR is easily Richard Linklater's weakest film...)

I liked it. Starts off very rough with the 1986 stuff but gets much better when the band is introduced. Josh Gad and the great Emma Stone give good performances. "It's like Abercrombie is making people now!"

Much, much better than the horrid box office would lead you to believe.

Grade - B+

Its insanely cliched and predicable but the sheer fun you have makes up for it.

This film deserved better.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Raiin Wilson makes the film work as much as it does. That's not to take away anything from Emma Stone and Josh Gad who are good (Teddy Geiger is good as well but he felt to be the most interchangeable of the three kids), but without Wilson this wouldn't have amounted to very much.

Watched it on the plane...

I really liked it. It was silly and fun enough to make up for being lightweight.

I was really surprised. It was funny and wasn't dumb... I can't complain.
